maya-calendar-1Is 2012 really the end of everything? There has been growing noise about the year 2012 and its part in mankind’s history and future. The fear all started with the Mayan calendar which is believed to have predicted the apocalypse on the year 2012.

But how true is it?

Guatemalan Mayan elder Apolinario Chile Pixtun is fed up with such questions. He adds that doomsday theories spring from Western and not Mayan.

Hollywood is set to open another end-of-the-world movie, aptly entitled “2012″ and it’s sure to be packed with horrific scenarios such as earthquakes, meteor showers, and tsunamis.

Meanwhile in Cornell University, Ann Martin, who runs the “Curious? Ask an Astronomer” Web site, says people are scared. She says, “It’s too bad that we’re getting e-mails from fourth-graders who are saying that they’re too young to die.”

The Mayan calendar reflects an ending of a time period on the year 2012, and there are also astronomical alignments which interestingly happen once every 25,800 years.

Read more about it, and decide for yourself.

I don't think 2012 will be the end of the world but undoubtedly a beginning of something new for this planet. I think we are at a pinnacle point in time where some major things can happen that will affect technology and world peace.
