Now here’s a shocker! The winner of the $8.5 million in the recent World Series of Poker is a 21-year-old!
Yes, Joe Cada was of legal age to gamble, but he bested all the other players. To make this even more interesting, Cada was a college dropout!
Cada dropped out of college and pursued being a poker pro instead. His parents weren’t happy about it but he did it anyway. But when he won Tuesday, his mom was “dumbfounded.” Cada is the youngest ever to become a champion in the Main Event of the world Series of Poker. He is now known as “Poker Kid.”
Cada’s pair of nines eliminated Maryland logger Darvin Moon, ending their head-to-head showdown.
ESPN will air the taped and edited coverage on Tuesday at 9-11 p.m. ET. Be sure to catch it as Cada makes history.
“I put in a lot of time in poker. Poker has been my life for some time,” said Cada. “To win this the first year out, I got real lucky. … I’m very fortunate.”
