Someone stole the infamous “Arbeit macht frei” sign from the gates of the Nazi Auschwitz death camp in Poland.

And so Poland is on the hunt for the thieves. It has evenĀ  sought the help of the Interpol and Europol.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his shock at the news.

He said, “I want to express the shock that this theft has provoked and I call on the Polish government to act and to find the criminals who violated this place where more than a million Jews were killed. It’s important to put this sign back to preserve the place where these crimes and terrible acts were committed.”

In English, the sign means, “Work Will Set You Free.” It has always reminded people of the horrors of the camp where 1.1 million mainly Jewish prisoners died from overwork, starvation, and gas chambers during the World War II.

The theft of the sign has caused outrage from many groups, including world leaders, Jewish groups, and Holocaust survivors.

Whilst this camp was in operation the prisoners nursed the hope that those responsible would be eventually caught and punished, many died shortly after telling their 'attackers' words to the effect of, "When the war is over you'll get whats coming to you". In the main it never happened, admittedly about 650 were executed, but many more were never proscecuted, or if they were they got nominal prison sentences. Stealing this sign is an outrage, and this act shames all white, christian people. Jews are wonderful, happy go lucky people, fun to be with, good friends, and only a fool, or an immature person [a person who accepts racist beliefs without question] would think otherwise. This theft was done by just 2 men, maybe one, who did not realise how hurtful or callous, or what a dishonour [to himself] he was committing. If he was a Pole - then he's brought dishonour on Poland.
