bcsAlabama and Texas will battle for the national championship on January 7 in Pasadena after finishing 1-2 in the final Bowl Championship Series standings.

In the Southeastern Conference Championship game Saturday afternoon, the Crimson Tide (13-0) waxed the Florida Gators, 32-13. Alabama had been No. 2 in the BCS prior to that game, while the Gators were No. 1. Texas, which was third in the BCS last week, then beat Nebraska, 13-12, on a Hunter Lawrence 46-yard field goal on the game’s final play in the Big 12 Championship contest Saturday night.

The Crimson Tide have a .9978 BCS average, while Texas came in at .9433, followed by Cincinnati (.8878), TCU (.8836) and Florida (.8637). The numbers are computed by averaging the percentage totals of the Harris Interactive poll, USA Today poll and computer rankings.

It will be a familiar site for the Longhorns in a game with national title implications. They topped USC, 41-38, at the Rose Bowl to win the national title in the 2005 season. Texas has won its last five bowl contests and seven of the last eight.
