Nine months after the brutal beating of Rihanna by former boyfriend, Chris Brown, the singer took to the red carpet. Rihanna attended the 37th annual American Music Awards show held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Rihanna does not have any award nominations for the AMAs, but she’s there to promote her album, “Rated R” by performing “Hard,” one of her newest songs.

Meanwhile Janet Jackson opened the show with a medley of her best hits, which are all part of her recently released compilation entitled “Janet: Number Ones.”

Among the event’s shockers was J.Lo’s performance. During her song, her lips did not match the lyrics as she danced in a boxing ring. Lopez was also reported to have fallen during her dance.

The late King of Pop won 4 posthumous awards including favorite male soul/rhythm and blues artist and favorite pop/rock male artist. His brother Jermaine accepted the awards for him.
