Novelist Anne Rice, is back! From Christianity, that is. Rice, who’s best known for her “Interview with the Vampire” as well as other gothic novels, has declared that she is once again, not Christian.
“In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. In the name of … Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen.” The author wrote Wednesday on her Facebook page.
Why the change of heart? Rice said she’s been having doubts for the past two to three years. As a child she was raised as a Catholic but she grew up to reject the religion. But in 2008 she came back to Christianity and released a memoir entitled “Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession.”
Now, in a telephone interview, Rice explains that she is troubled by the child abuse scandals involving the church as well as how the church reacts to the issue. She also expressed how she didn’t like that the church ex-communicated Sister Margaret McBride, a nun and hospital administrator who had approved an abortion for a woman whose life was in danger.
