Apple released a patch to fix the reported SMS hack that allowed hackers complete access to infected iPhones.
The hack was presented to security professionals in the Black Hat security conference and a day after Apple quickly released it’s fix saying, “This morning, less than 24 hours after a demonstration of this exploit, we’ve issued a free software update that eliminates the vulnerability from the iPhone.”
Patching Instructions (via The Examiner):
- Launch iTunes.
- Hook up your iPhone. You can wait for it to sync, or cancel it by sliding the bar on the iPhone.
- Select your iPhone by clicking on it under Devices.
- Click the Check for Update button.
- You’ll get a popup that asks if you want to install iPhone software version (3.0.1). Click Download and Install.
- A software license agreement will popup. Click Next and then Agree.
- It will take a few minutes to download the software, backup the iPhone and install the update. During the process, the iPhone will reboot a couple of times, so don’t be alarmed with activity on the iPhone. Once it is finished, the status bar of iTunes will read that the iPhone sync is complete.
