After a third day of bad weather at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the space shuttle Atlantis was redirected to the Edwards Air Force base in California and landed safely.
The Edwards Air Force base was the primary space shuttle landing site during the early day of the shuttle’s program and is now the secondary landing site for all space shuttle and acts as a backup up in the event that the Kennedy Space Center is unavailable.
Space Shuttle Atlantis was launched May 11 on a mission to perform repairs and upgrades on the venerable Hubble telescope. Hubble was released back into orbit last Tuesday .
