The Reds were swept by the Pirates in a three-game series on their last visit to Pittsburgh in April. On Wednesday afternoon Cincinnati, returned the favor by completing a three-game sweep of the Pirates with a 5-0 victory at PNC Park.

As right-hander Homer Bailey tossed a four-hit shutout, Cincinnati’s string of strong pitching performances continued. He needed only 90 pitches and picked up the win, improving his record to 1-2. It was the first career shutout and complete game for Bailey.

Reds manager Dusty Baker said, “Bailey’s fastball was working. His location was going good and we turned a couple big double plays, and we got some early offense from Phillips and Votto and that’s all Bailey needed.”

Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan said, “He located his fastball well. He was moving it when he needed to and used his breaking ball sparingly, but made some big pitches when he needed to.”
