Thousands of fans will not get their Bob Marley fix this year. The annual Bob Marley concert in Jamaica has just been canceled for the first time since it started in 1992.

The concert event is also a celebration of Marley’s birthday and a yearly jam for all who wants to relive the music of the icon. But unfortunately, it’s not gonna happen this year.

According to superintendent Dezeita Taylor, the police denied an event permit to Clive Pringle, the event promoter due to several run-ins with police and residents in Negril. Pringle was even fined $560 last year.

Pringle organizes the Bob Marley Birthday Bash every February 6, and it usually stretches later than the 2 a.m. curfew established under the Noise Abatement Act.

Pringle said he appealed for the event to be pushed through, but he doubts the permission will be granted.

The bash is able to draw some 3,500 people. It was launched in Negril, a seaside town west of Kingston.
