At least six people were killed when a bomb detonated in the border city of Peshawar on Friday, one day after a series of deadly militant attacks rocked Pakistan.
Local officials said that the bomb exploded in a busy neighborhood near a mosque and police station in the Pakistani city on the border of Afghanistan.
A hospital official and a local police officer gave reporters conflicting death toll figures. The death toll ranged from six to 10 people.
Authorities said that the blast comes after a series of militant attacks Thursday that killed at least 30 Pakistani police officers and civilians.
Peshawar is the capital of the North-West Frontier Province and the administrative centre for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan but not the capital of the federal regional territory. Founded by the Kushan king Kanishka in the 2nd century AD, it is now one of the prime cities of Pakistan west of the river Indus.
