Brazil’s Air Force and Navy have announced that they will cease all efforts in searching for the other yet unfound of the 228 passengers of Air France 447, which crashed in the Atlantic last June 1.
Lieutenant Colonel Henry Munhoz of the Brazilian Air Force said that it was unlikely that the military would still be able to find the remaining bodies and wreckage in the ocean after a few weeks had passed. Munhoz also pointed out in a television news conference that it has been nine days since a body has been recovered.
French personnel will still remain in the area though, for anything that might still come up, although they have released on statement whatsoever regarding the extent of their search efforts.
So far, only 51 bodies have been recovered, and the plane’s black boxes have not yet been found. The black boxes are expected by authorities to shed light on the accident, as the true cause of the crash is yet unknown.
