The all-male reign in Britain’s Red Arrows came to an end as Flight Lieutenant Kirsty Moore becomes the first ever woman to join the prestigious Red Arrows aerobatic display team.

Moore who’s 31 years old, will perform with the Royal Air Force display team starting next year until 2012. She’s the first woman fast-jet pilot to advance far enough to qualify.

Moore finds her job awesome and says that the day she was told she’s been chosen was the best day of her life. She added, “I know for outsiders it is a big thing but for me it is about timing and someone was always going to be the first woman to join the Red Arrows. I’m lucky enough it’s happened to me and I’m very proud.”

Moore extends the credit to her dad, whom she says was the person who inspired her to join up after she studied for Masters in Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College, London.

Britain’s Red Arrows always performs during national events such as Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday. They also perform at air shows in Britain and abroad.
