Finally, Brooke Astor‘s son, Anthony Marshall, has been found guilty of 14 of the 15 counts filed against him. The 85 year-old was convicted in October of first-degree grand larceny and scheming to defraud. He is now facing a minimum of one to three years, or as much as eight to 25 years in state prison.
Assistant District Attorney Joel Seidemann said one of the most serious convictions of Marshall was him giving himself a $1 million-a-year raise for managing his mother’s affairs. The conviction involved Marshall’s former attorney, Francis Morrissey, for five counts relating to the case, including forgery and scheming to defraud Astor.
Before the sentence was announced, Marshall only said, “I have nothing to add to what my attorneys have said.”
Marshall must surrender on January 19, which gives him time to spend the holidays with his family. His wife, Charlene, wept after hearing the sentence.
Brooke Astor was a philanthropist. She died in 2007 when she was 103 years old.
