A former Peace Corps volunteer and University of Colorado graduate has been living in a cave in Utah since 2000 and has sworn off money for good.
Daniel Suelo, 48, lives in a cave about an hour walk from Moab, Utah. For the past decade, he has not spent any money and goes to the public library in order to blog about his life for free. He forages for food in the forest and river bank, and gathers discarded items from the town.
On why he is living his alternative lifestyle, Suelo wrote in his blog, “Money represents lack. Money represents things in the past (debt) and things in the future (credit), but money never represents what is present.”
Suelo graduated with a degree in anthropology and worked as a lab technician. In 1987, he joined the Peace Corps and was posted to an Ecuadorian village where he monitored the health of the tribespeople. He also delivered babies.
Today, Suelo claims that aside from money, he also does not take or use foodstamps and other forms of government assistance.
Earlier, it was also reported that a German woman lived without money for 12 years. She started an exchange circle, where people without money trade objects and favors.
