A small study has shown that chemotherapy treatment may not only be useful for treating certain cancers, but also for promoting softer, smoother skin.

Chemotherapy involved the use of a topical cream called 5-FU, which is an active compound to combat precancers. Doctors have noted that the same cream also has rejuvenative factors for the human skin, though it has not been scientifically supported until recently.

Regular application of the topical cream has shown to remove skin lesions, moisten and soften the skin, and protect it against sun damage. The study shows that approximately 95% of the test subjects exhibited significant improvements in their skin both in self and peer reviews.

5-FU theoretically works by injuring the skin lightly, urging the skin to repair itself and to produce more collagen that also has beneficial effects for the skin.
