The San Francisco Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies, 5-2, in the 1st of three matches, thanks to Barry Zito who was off to a 4-0 start for the first time in his career. The left-hand pitcher earned his fourth consecutive winning decision, which is his longest such streak after winning six straight decisions in mid-May 7 until mid-June of 2006 while he was still pitching for Oakland.
“It’s been fun to watch our pitching staff and bullpen keep us in games. The only time we lose is when we really don’t hit,” said Giants Aubrey Huff after hitting a two-run double in the win.
Esmil Rogers, will be filling in for injured left-hander Jorge De La Rosa tonight.
“When it happens, you have to be ready,” Rogers said. “I have to trust my pitches…I’ll be ready to throw anything. Whatever the catcher asks me throw, that’s what I have to do.”
