Although Corey Haim‘s best friend, Corey Feldman, insists that people should stop making assumptions that the 38-year-old actor died of overdose, the surprising tragedy only reminded people that Hollywood indeed has a lot of stories which are similar to Haim’s fate.

Haim, who died on Wednesday in his apartment, was believed to have had a drug overdose. Drug addiction has cut short the lives of a lot of many promising young talents who got lost after their first taste of drugs.

Only last December, actress Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia and prescription drugs. She was only 31 years old.

River Phoenix, Joaquin Phoenix’s brother, died when he was only 23 due to a drug overdose outside a Hollywood nightclub.

Haim shot to fame when he starred in the 1987 movie, The Lost Boys. At 15 years old, he was already a heartthrob. But it was in that movie that he started using drugs.

In 1994, Haim made a confession to British tabloid The Sun. “I was working on ‘Lost Boys’ when I smoked my first joint. I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack.”
