Walt Disney’s 3-D animated picture G-Force, whose story revolves around a band of hero guinea pigs, was the top film in US and Canadian theaters last weekend.

It had $32.2 million in sales, while Harry Potter only had $30 million in ticket revenues. This is not bad news, however, for the Time Warner Inc. movie because it is already in its second weekend and was the number one film last week.

In third place was Sony Corp.’s The Ugly Truth with $27 million in earnings. The horror film Orphan, also from Time Warner, earned $12.8 million and bagged the fourth place.

According to Jeff Bock, senior box office analyst for Los Angeles-based Exhibitor Relations, Harry Potter slid as G-Force siphoned the family audience. But he added that Harry Potter will remain a good earner for Time Warner and won’t hurt future installments.

“When all is said and done, ‘Harry Potter’ will probably be in the top three movies for the summer. Don’t feel too bad for ‘Harry Potter’,” Bock said.

G-Force, which exceeded analysts’ expectations, tells the tale of a group of government-trained guinea pigs who tries to stop a diabolical billionaire from taking over the world. The cast includes Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan, and Penelope Cruz.
