George Clooney is really an amazing force in and outside of Hollywood. The 49-year old hunk will be awarded an Emmy award for his humanitarian efforts, it has been reported.
Clooney is set to receive the Bob Hope trophy for hosting the telethon which raised $50 million for Haiti, the nation which was badly hurt by earthquake this year. His other humanitarian efforts also include his efforts to raise funds for those affected by the Hurricane Katrina and his work in raising awareness of the Darfur crisis.
Chairman and chief executive of the TV academy, John Shaffner said Clooney was “an obvious choice” for the award.
“He has understood and harnessed the power of television, the most powerful medium of our time, to reach into the hearts of people around the world and compelled us to action on behalf of those in sudden and desperate need, as well as those tragically oppressed in Darfur.”
Previous recipients of the awards were Oprah Winfrey, Bill Cosby and Danny Thomas.
