New York Giants Chad Jones smashed his SUV into a pole 6:15 Friday morning. He quickly underwent surgery for a broken left leg and ankle. Two other passengers were also reported injured. The Louisiana station reported that Jones had “arteries and nerves exposed”.

The 21-year old Jones was admitted to the LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans in guarded condition and was listed between critical and stable condition, according to New Orleans EMS spokesman Jeb Tate. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that doctors are attempting to save his leg.

It took 20 minutes for firefighters and members of the rescue division to pull out Jones from his wrecked black SUV. Police spokeswoman Shereese Harper said it was too early in the investigation to know if Jones was speeding, and police will run toxicology reports to see if alcohol was a contributor. But the New Orleans police would charge Jones with “careless operation of a vehicle.”

“Just got news about Chad Jones’ car accident. We are praying for Chad and his family. Keep him in your prayers,” posted Les Miles, Jones’s coach at Louisiana State.
