In every game, the devout Christian football player Tim Tebow puts a Biblical passage on his eye black. However, his chosen passage in his last game—John 16 33—could not save his team from defeat.
The Florida Gators was defeated by the Alabama Crimson Tide, 32-13, in the Southeastern Conference title game. Last year, the Gators won against the Tide.
In the New International Version of the Bible, John 16 33 says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
The Tide’s victory means that it is in contention in the Bowl Championship Series title game in an attempt to win the National Championship. The winner in tonight’s match between the Texas Longhorns and Nebraska Cornhuskers will face the Tide.
Many pro football analysts feel Tebow does not have the abilities to be a pro football quarterback, as his offense at the Gators was a gimmicky one. Some predict he will be a better halfback.
