Justin Bieber’s mom, Pattie Mallette, widely known as “Mommy Bieber” was a victim of a horrible plane crash accident that took the lives of many this June 2010.
She was 18 years old when she became pregnant with the boy wonder. She raised him as an only child, putting food on table for Bieber by working on low-paying office jobs, though Bieber maintains contact with his father.
Bieber started to learn playing instruments by himself, a lot of them which included, piano, drums, guitar, and trumpet. This would be evident later on when he would guest in shows (playing drums in American Idol Season 9). Then in the late of 2007, while Bieber was 12, the boy entered into a local singing competition in Stratford, peforming Ne Yo‘s, “So Sick.” Bieber won second place. Mommy Bieber then a video of his son’s performance over the internet for his family and friends’ to see, continuously uploading videos of Bieber singing covers of various R&B songs. Bieber’s popularity on the site eventually escalated.
Scooter Braun, a former Marketing Executive of So So Def, chanced upon the video while scouting for new singing talents. Braun, so impressed with Bieber’s performance, tracked down the theater, tracked down the school and finally reached Mallette. Mallette was reluctant at first. She recalls praying, “God, I gave him to you. You could send me a Christian man, a Christian label!” She consulted this with her church elders, and the elders gave her the “go”, sending her their encouragement. And the rest is history.
