People were shocked when news of break-up surfaced about Academy Award Winners Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes after their seven years of marriage–well almost seven years.

But amidst speculations of some who think there could be some dirt behind the split, sources close to the couple are saying the two have simply grown apart.

According to one source, one of the reasons is that Mendes tends to be workaholic and that the actress stuck with the relationship for a while for the sake of the kids.

Winslet, 34, and Mendes, 44, have a 6-year-old son named Joe. Winslet has another child who’s 9 years old, with British director Jim Threapleton.

Reports say that they are no longer living together, although Mendes is still living in the same Manhattan apartment building.

The two are believed to have split in January this year, but that they decided to keep it quiet until after the Oscars.
