On Wednesday, “American Idol” sent the first member of the season 9 top 12 packing. Lacey Brown was the first one sent home.
As none of the bottom three contestants was a big surprise, the results show didn’t pack a whole lot of drama. Paige Miles, who performed Tuesday despite laryngitis, and Tim Urban joined Brown in the bottom three, and after Urban got a pass to next week’s show, it came down to roommates Miles and Brown. Voters liked Miles’ version of the Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Women” better than Brown’s “Ruby Tuesday.”
In an effort to convince the judges to save her, Brown then sang Brandi Carlile’s “The Story”–the same song that got her through to the top 12 last week. However, the judges opted to hold off on using their one save card for later in the season.
Wednesday’s show also featured the return of season 7 “Idol” winner David Cook, who ripped through a cover of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and teased his involvement in this year’s “Idol Gives Back” special. To help spotlight the work of the United Nations Foundation, he’ll be traveling to Africa soon.
