Remember Lauryn Hill? The girl with the big attitude but with a bigger voice who rocked the movie, The Sister’s Act 2? The very same singer who won the Grammys for her classic solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill? Well that girl is back, y’all!
Probably not for good, but at least now we get to know why she disappeared in the first place. People wondered where she’d gone and why she left when she was at the height of her career. Some even guessed she had a nervous breakdown.
But just to clear things out, “Ms. Hill,” as she likes to be called, talked to National Public Radio‘s Zoe Chace.
So what’s the reason behind her mysterious disappearance? “There were a number of different reasons,” Ms. Hill explains. “But partly, the support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it,” she said.
She went on to explain further, “Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society…And it’s important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected.”
Hill also gives us a sneak peek of her personal life. She now has 5 children with longtime love Rohan Marley, son of the late reggae legend Bob Marley.
So are we gonna see more of her again? Asked if she were to sing and perform again, Ms. Hill said, “I think it’s just time.”
