Rapper Lil Wayne has pleaded guilty to second-degree weapons possession charges in a New York City courtroom. His guilty plead was made on Thursday. This, after initially pleading not guilty.
Under the terms of the plea bargain, Lil Wayne can be sentenced to as much as one year in jail.
Back in July 2007, New York City police found a 40-caliber handgun on his tour bus. DNA evidence connected him with it. According to a report by Rolling Stone, Lil Wayne could face up to three-and-a-half years in prison if he’d been found guilty by a jury.
Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. and is 27 years old, is also facing trial for felony drug possession and weapon possession in Arizona after marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and the handgun were all said to have been found on his bus.
Lil Wayne is reported to be the second major rapper in only a year to be found guilty of weapon charges. The other was TI, who’s currently serving time after being sentenced in March 2009.
