The trial of the man who gunned down abortion doctor George Tiller will begin on Monday. The accused, Scott Roeder, who’s 51 years old, is charged with first-degree murder of Tiller. Tiller was gunned down in his Kansas church on May 31.
Doctors who perform abortion has been the target of several anti-abortion groups. And Tiller has been given the nickname, “Tiller the baby killer.”
Terry O’Neill, president of the pro-choice National Organization for Women (NOW), said Tiller’s murder was an act of “domestic terrorism” to intimidate other doctors who also perform abortion.
O’Neill told AFP, “Scott Roeder’s murder was aimed at other doctors, not just Dr Tiller. That’s the essence of terrorism.”
In jailhouse interviews, Roeder did admit shooting Tiller but he pleads not guilty to the charges, saying that what he did was necessary to protect the lives of unborn children.
