After the balloon boy saga was declared a hoax by the authorities, the mother of Falcon, Mayumi Heene, issued an affidavit admitting that she and her husband knew Falcon was not in the balloon the whole time.

According to the reports, she was also said to have confessed that they devised the balloon saga to make them “more marketable” to the media.

The affidavit, which was released on Friday, said, “Mayumi described that she and Richard Heene devised this hoax approximately two weeks earlier…. She and Richard had instructed their three children to lie to authorities as well as the media regarding this hoax.”

Richard Heene, on the other hand, insists the story is true.

Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said he will recommend filing of charges against Richard and Mayumi Heene. Charges include conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, making a false report to authorities, and attempting to influence a public servant. Felony is the most serious of the charges and will take a maximum of six years in prison.
