The Wall Street Journal reports that Nestle, who is currently under investigation for a recent E.coli outbreak involving their Toll House cookie dough, has declined to provide certain documents for FDA investigation perusal in the past. These documents reportedly included recorded complaints of pest-control and consumer complaints.
There have been 69 confirmed cases of E.coli contamination resulting from the Toll House product, 34 of which required hospitalization.
The FDA clarifies that no company is required to make their documents open for investigation, but most food companies do. However, there has to be sufficient and plausible reason to request access to sensitive documents.
Nestle has already recalled Toll House about a week ago.
