Do you know anyone who’s neurotic? If you do, tell them that a new study has found that worrying too much can lead to developing asthma.
Chronic stress alters hormone levels, which can inflame the airways. When this happens, a person will find it hard to breathe. Researchers believe that people who tend to be neurotic could suffer this difficulty in breathing.
Dr. Adrian Loerbroks from Heidelberg University, Germany and colleagues studied the associations between neuroticism, stressful life events and asthma by surveying a sample of 5,114 men and women aged 40 to 65 years from Heidelberg and its surroundings.
Their findings suggest that there is a link between asthma and neuroticism in men and between asthma and unemployment affects both male and female.
The study noted that people who were highly neurotic were three times more likely to develop asthma than those were less neurotic. It’s also interesting to note that a broken life relationship doubles asthma risks.
So next time the person beside you acts neurotic, help them to come down and “chill out” so they can lso be protected against asthma symptoms.
