Nicolas Cage revealed in his MTV News interview, that he would indulge himself in drinks and drugs when studying up on his roles of haunted men, such as in “Face/Off” and “Leaving Las Vegas.”

Particularly in “Leaving Las Vegas,” he would have some drinks on set when trying to get more ideas or insights about his character.

However, he claims that he has not had any cocktails for roughly five years now. So MTV asks how he approached his haunted character for his movie “The Bad Lieutenant,” who gets ‘high’ on various drugs.

They were able to find out that he uses a substance called Inositol. He would put a certain amount of it in a vial and snort away. He says that this helps him to learn more about the character he’ll be playing.

Cage told MTV, “It actually freaked Werner out because he thought I was completely blasted, which I wasn’t, and he would ask me, “What’s in the vial?” And I found it frustrating, because it took me out of my preparation when he would do that.”
