The star-studded movie “Nine” has got some fans excited, most probably because it has some of the biggest names in Hollywood: Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren, Judi Dench and Nicole Kidman.

Aside from that, the movie said to have cost an estimated $64 millions to produce.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. Although it has earned some success and awards, the film will most likely be pulled back from hundreds of smaller U.S. cities. “Nine” was a disappointment in the box office, as well as in reviews.

David Glasser, an operations executive for the independent Weinstein Company told Reuters, “The movie is performing very well on about 890 key screens. The movie’s doing well in those areas and obviously in some smaller cities, it was not doing as well. Rottentomatoes.com gave it only 37% approval.

Despite the movie’s five Golden Globe and two Screen Actors Guild nominations, movie critics are not impressed.

“Nine” was on top 8 at the North North American box office on its second week last weekend with only $5.5 million in ticket sales.

NINE is not succeeding because the critics have demeaned it and the audiences don't understand it. It's about the 1960s film era, for one, and from a Fellini film which succeeded wonderfully as a Broadway show. In New York City. That by no means guaranteed it success as a film in Roanoke or Peoria. It's really a quite good film, with various characters' plot lines advanced in musical scenes, much like CHICAGO. And yes, it has a plot, and no, like opera the tunes are not hummable. But the performances are quite moving. I'd suggest the public go to see it, but it will probably work best for those who remember what the 1960s was about. Marion Cotillard is vividly memorable, among a hardworking cast.

not really a disappointment. I fully expected this movie to be a catastrophic failure, and it sure is. Don't waste your money.
