Cell phone giant Nokia is suing Apple. Nokia claims Apple’s iPhone infringes on several Nokia patents.

According to the report, iPhone violates 10 patents covering wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption.

Nokia also says that the patented technologies have been used in every Apple model of the iPhone since it came out into the market in 2007.

Nokia says it has invested over €40 billion, or $60 billion during the last 20 years for research and development to create their patent technologies, which they claim is “one of the strongest and broadest” in the industry.

In a prepared statement, vice president of legal and intellectual property at Nokia Ikka Rahnasto said, “The basic principle in the mobile industry is that those companies who contribute technology development to establish standards create intellectual property, which others then need to compensate for.”

Meanwhile, Apple spokewoman Susan Lundgren refused to make any remarks, saying only, “Apple doesn’t comment on pending litigation.”
