Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino boxer who was supposed to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in March, said he was planning to sue Mayweather. Pacquiao wants to pursue a defamation lawsuit against the other boxer, his father, and even Golden Boy Productions.
Pacquiao said on his website on Friday that his character has been damaged by accusations which are untrue.
“Enough is enough. These people, Mayweather Sr., Jr., and Golden Boy Promotions, think it is a joke and a right to accuse someone wrongly of using steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. I have tried to just brush it off as a mere pre-fight ploy but I think they have gone overboard.”
As of the moment the fight is on hold until the two teams can reach a compromise over the blood testing. The Mayweather camp insists on using Olympic-style drug testing and also using the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency to conduct the tests. Mayweather’s camp wants to see use of human growth hormone. Meanwhile, Pacquiao already agreed to urine and blood testing, but Pacquiao does not want testing immediately before the fight because he believes it will weaken him.
