Panasonic Corp will launch its 3D televisions in the United States on Wednesday, and is teaming up with top U.S. electronics retailer Best Buy Co to let customers try out the technology at special displays in hundreds of stores.
Panasonic also plans to discount the 3-D models by close to 50 percent as part of the Japanese firm’s push to drive adoption of the technology. A 50-inch model will sell for about $2,500 and aims to sell 500,000 3D TVs in the United States in the first year of their launch, half its annual global sales target.
While 3-D technology has gained popularity in theaters because of sci-fi blockbuster “Avatar” and other recent titles, electronics makers are starting to introduce new televisions and Blu-ray players to bring 3-D into the living room. Unlike past 3-D technology, which used color filters to create the 3-D effect, the latest models use battery-operated glasses that open and shutter rapidly to allow for high-definition 3-D images.
Shares in Panasonic closed up 2.8 percent at 1,307 yen on Monday, and analysts said it is because of the announcement of 3D TV.
So guys, better save up fo the coming Panasonic 3D TV.
