According to a study, the sex talk between parents and their children happen too late. So many reasons exist why this significant talk is being set aside and postponed–kids are uncomfortable talking to their parents about it, and parents prefer their kids getting the facts from someone else.

But did you know that 40% of adolescents already had intercourse before they started talking to their parents about sex and everything they need to know about it such as safe sex, birth control, and STDs?

Experts say teens who talk to their parents about sex are more likely to have sex later as compared to those who didn’t. They also tend to be more responsible in practicing safe sex.

One of the authors of the new study and chief of general pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Boston Dr. Mark Schuster says the results of the findings did not surprise him. He adds, “But there’s something about having actual data that serves as a wakeup call to parents who are not talking to their kids about very important issues until later than we think would be best.”
