US President Barack Obama together with his first lady, Michelle Obama, arrived in Oslo on a chilly, damp morning from Washington. The Obamas flew to Norway on Air Force One to receive the president’s Nobel Peace Prize. Amidst criticism that the award was given prematurely, Obama acknowledged there may be others who may be more deserving of the honor than he is, but he added that he plans to continue working on issues which are important for building lasting peace and security in the world, like stopping the spread of nuclear weapons, addressing the problems on climate change, as well as stabilizing Afghanistan.
Obama’s Nobel Speech will tell of his thoughts on war, security and the pursuit of peace. He is also expected to spell out the role of American leadership and the responsibilities of all nations.
The Nobel honor comes with a $1.4 million prize. The White House says Obama will award that to charities, although he still hasn’t disclosed which charity will receive it.
