His right oblique ailing, catcher Rod Barajas provided the hit that jump-started the only Mets rally in Saturday’s loss to the Dodgers. He departed the game soon after, his coming days unclear as he grapples with the same injury that derailed shortstop Jose Reyes and outfielder Angel Pagan.

To deal with such a scenario, the club carries three catchers on the roster. Still, a stint on the disabled list may be in Barajas’ future, hinted manager Jerry Manuel.

Manuel said, “There’s a possibility that we might have to do something there.”

Pagan missed about a week of time with the injury. For nearly three weeks, Reyes’ discomfort lingered. In “a few days,” Barajas believes he will feel fine.

Barajas said, “It’s sore. But standing here, I’m not feeling a sharp pain or any kind of discomfort. It’s just turning side to side.”

In his second at-bat, Barajas hurt himself fouling a ball off. At third, he would strike out and strand a runner. As he crept behind the plate, the pain receded. He felt a twinge in the on-deck circle in the sixth inning.
