Have you seen Tiger Woods’ public apology? Everyone braced for the fallen athlete on Friday as he sought forgiveness for his past actions which culminated in a nasty scandal. People have different opinions on the matter, including whether or not Woods should have issued an apology in the first place.
But here’s an opinion from Mary Jo Rapini, a noted sex and intimacy psychotherapist in Houston. She says Woods seemed “totally repentant” but adds that he has a long way to go.
Rapini also saw revealing patterns as Woods’ speech touched on his personal behavior to how it affected his friends and family. Rapini says, “His behavior’s more confident when he talks about his work, and his colleagues. He broke a little bit more when he talked about Elin. So he’s more terrified about that more personal aspect – with good reason.”
More than that, Rapini sensed fear in Woods voice, “”He’s got a lot of work left to do – you can just tell. His speaking is a bit rote. And he’s still using some behaviors that are still separating him from the pain. He’s using a lot of time, a lot of pausing – mostly because he’s trying not to feel as much of it.”
