Shakira‘s latest song didn’t go so well with listeners. Turns out a lot hated her version of “Waka Waka”, the World Cup song. South Africans are complaining about it, with most people saying it was horrible.
The song was a collaboration with South African band Freshlyground and borrows a Cameroonian song called “Zangalewa.”
But perhaps what’s most hated about it is the fact that the song was not sung by a South African. Critics also slam the World Cup’s organizers for getting a lot of foreign acts such as Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys and John Legend to perform on the tournament’s kickoff concert, instead of local musicians. The committee has acknowledged the complaints and has made changes on the lineup.
Shakira is going to sing her “Waka Waka” song again with Freshlyground in front of 94,000 people at the final match on July 11.
