Parodying domestic violence is a hit or miss thing, but when SNL does it, it’s usually a hit. But probably not this time.
The recent SNL parody of Tiger Woods’ scandal have made headlines. While some found it hilarious, some say it was made in bad taste, especially since the show’s musical guest was Rihanna–also a victim of domestic violence.
It was expected of course, that the scandal will not lose heat without being spoofed by the comedy sketch, but is the timing off?
Different sites such reacted to the SNL show, hosted by actress Blake Lively. PopEater said, “It was another sketch that gave us pause. We think, had the genders been reversed, ‘SNL’ wouldn’t make light of the potentially violent situation.”
Meanwhile, female-oriented site Jezebel called the episode one of SNL’s “obvious missteps… when you consider that Rihanna was the night’s musical guest.”
