Long live the King!

Bestseller author Stephen King shows kindness and generosity at this special time of the year. The author and his wife, Tabitha, have announced that they are donating $13,000 to pay for the cost of two bus trips so that 150 members of the Maine Army National Guard will be able to travel from Camp Atterbury in Indiana to Maine. The soldiers left Maine last week for Camp Atterbury, for some training. In January of next year, they are scheduled to go to Afghanistan.

The Kings’ gift is perfect for these soldiers who want to be home for the holidays.

The couple, who lives in Bangor, was approached for the donation, said Julie Eugley, one of King’s personal assistants to Bangor Daily News.

King, who usually writes horror fiction, thought 13 is an unlucky number, so the exact amount he gave was actually $12,999. Eugley threw in a dollar to make $13,000.
