The Filipino inmates from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, known for their “Thriller” YouTube dance video, are at it again and have come up with another dance routine to pay tribute to their idol, Michael Jackson.
The 1500 inmates practiced for 9 hours a day and stopped only to eat or take shelter when it rained after they heard of the sudden death of Jackson’s death.
Crisanto Nieri, who played Jackson’s part in the dance, felt pressured about he dance saying “Even as a kid, he was already my idol,” said Nieri, who is serving seven years on drug charges. “I am happy that our video became famous, but I feel some pressure to perform well.”
The dancing inmates idea was thought up by Cebu provincial security consultant Byron Garcia. Garcia maintains that the synchronized dancing provided inmates with a better alternative to the poorly attended exercise sessions.
The security consultant captured the inmates performing and posted the video on YouTube way back in 2007. The “Thiller” dance video went on to become an Internet sensation.
