David Tennant took his final bow last night after five years as The Doctor and the hugely-popular series welcomed in Matt Smith.

After a face-off with The Master and the president of the Time Lords in a series of special episodes, Tennant’s Doctor was seen regenerating into the eleventh incarnation.

Matt Smith rose to the occasion as a rather goofy follow on after Tennant’s chattering, slightly manic Doctor.

He checked he had eyes, ears, was impressed by his chin and delighted to find he had legs. It was only when checking his hair that he panicked and thought the longer length meant he was a girl…before quickly establishing that he wasn’t. He was seen in his final moments crashing towards earth in the Tardis.

The Master, played by John Sim, who had turned every human into a clone of himself and so was controlling the world and its nuclear devices, had to be fought off by the Doctor.
