“The Sound of Music“, one of my all-time favorite movies, is seeing new life on TV as ABC screens it on 27th December at 7 p.m.

The 1965 classic film about the Von Trapp family, a hired governess named Maria and family’s escape from the Nazis after the Anschluss.

Maria was initially hiredas a governess by Von Trapp patriarch, Georg Von Trapp, to take care of his seven naughty but talented children. The kids are resentful to all the governesses hired before but they apparently start liking Maria. She is big-hearted and witty and her nature is accepted by the kids wholeheartedly.

Maria falls in love with Georg and his children and eventually finds a place in their hearts.

The latter part of the movie gets serious starting with the Third Reich gaining power in Austria as part of the Anschluss and the Nazi officials forcing Georg Von Trapp to serve the Nazi military. Georg refuses and prepares his family for a long journey out of Austria and into Switzerland.

“The Sound of Music” features classic song like “The Sound of Music”, “Edelweiss”, “My Favorite Things”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and “Do-Re-Mi” and won 5 Oscars including Best Picture.
