Tornado Warning Phoenix News Update: The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) closed State Route 87 from Winslow to Pine-Strawberry and Northbound and southbound Interstate 17 closed south of Flagstaff due to snow.

The according to it’s website, the DPS is discouraging ALL travel to Northern Arizona at this time due to adverse weather conditions.

The second major storm moving through Arizona has resulted in the following highway closures:

  • State Route 89A is closed from Flagstaff to Sedona in both directions
  • Northbound I-17 is closed at milepost 298 (Camp Verde)
  • Northbound and Southbound I-17 is closed at milepost 337 (Pulliam Field/Flagstaff Airport)
  • Chains are required or 4X4 Vehicles on U.S. 60 in the Salt River Canyon
  • U.S. 180 closed from milepost 236.8 to 250 (highway leading to the Grand Canyon from Flagstaff)
  • Chains are required between Heber and Payson on S.R. 260
  • State Route 87 is closed from Winslow south to Pine-Strawberry
  • Power lines are lying across both northbound and southbound I-17 at Kachina Village (south of Flagstaff)

DPS will be opening their Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at noon today at DPS Headquarters in Phoenix. This is in preparation for the next 24-hour storm cycle.
