A series of powerful tornadoes struck Arkansas, destroying dozens of homes and injuring people, as reported by an Arkansas Emergency Management spokeswoman.

National Weather Service said that the first tornado struck in Saline County in central Arkansas around 7:28 p.m. ET Wednesday, destroying 22 homes.

A woman who was in the area described to CNN affiliate KTHV her experience with the storm, “It was the awfulest roaring I ever heard in my life. My house felt like it was fixing to crumble over me.”

A second tornado came at around 9:25 p.m. ET north of Saline in White County, damaging 9 homes and injuring 1 person.

And then around 10:05 p.m. ET, a third tornado struck in nearby Cleburne County, destroying several homes and injuring 3 people, 2 of which are in critical condition, according to Renee Preslar, spokeswoman for the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.

The tornadoes came with powerful thunderstorms and hail the size of golf balls.

John Lewis, a senior forecaster with an Arkansas office of the National Weather Service said, “The storm seems to be shifting to the east so the severe weather should be out of this area by [Thursday].”
