If you’re on Twitter (which I bet you are) you’d surely appreciate Ford’s new feature on their cars.

CEO of Ford Motor Co. Alan Mulally revealed to the CES 2010 audience on Thursday that they are adding Twitter messages and Internet radio to their in-car entertainment and communication service. This function, dubbed as “Sync” aims to make communication while driving safely possible. In a nutshell, it’s all about “keeping their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel” while chatting with kids or making dinner reservations.

Paul Green, a professor at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute says automakers are making a “reasonable effort” to keep drivers safe. Since Sync is voice-activated, it reads your twitter posts out loud so communication should not distract the drivers.

Green says, “They’re providing more things for drivers to do, but they’re providing them in an easy way. One hopes it’s a net gain.”

Ford executives also said they’re talking to Google Inc because they also plan to bring its services to cars, and maybe some Wi-Fi functions, too.
