BJ Penn successfully defended his lightweight title against Diego Sanchez at the UFC 107 in Memphis.

The night was Penn’s has he gained early dominance over Sanchez opening with a vicious flurry of hits badly hurting him with punch after punch in one of the most dominant first minutes of a title fight.

In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round Penn maintained control of the fight landing effective punches against Sanchez’s wild swings that rarely made their mark. Sanchez started bleeding on the 3rd with blood flowing down from his mouth to his chest.

Penn finished the 5th round with a brutal kick to Sanchez’s head and made a cut too big that ringside doctors declared the fight over for Sanchez.

“I always wanted to fight Diego Sanchez,” Penn said afterward.

“It just happens,” Sanchez said. “B.J. is a great champion, and he came out the best B.J. ever to step into the ring. I did my best and I’ll be back.”
